LORNA GRAY - Equestrian Artist

Based in a tiny Cotswolds village, I am particularly drawn to the beauty of my surroundings. My collection of goats, chickens, two horses and a cat dominate my life (in a very pleasant fashion!) and heavily influence my work by providing an endless source of inspiration, humour and emotion. Jack (an aging arthritic ex-racehorse) and Rosie (a young welsh cob from Parys Horses) are wonderful creatures and I am getting great enjoyment from competing in dressage. I hope to affiliate Rosie in the next year.

The magnificent work of Euan Uglow has a ever increasing influence on my ideas and techniques. His use of paint and composition is second to none. I have also been influenced by Picasso (particularly his early work), Oskar Kokoschka and the magnificent portrait artist Velázquez. Many other artists have been influential in the development of my unique style and expression.

I currently work as an Illustrator for a national Archaeoligical Unit and the level of accuracy required for this kind of work has given me a great attention to detail. I am also an experienced web designer, having two commercial sites to my name - South India Tours and Lakeside Guesthouse.

Ongoing projects include 'The Moving Horse' and a collection of illustrated childrens stories inspired by the adventures of the various small animals on the farm.
